Norbert Michelisz put in a sensational lap record-breaking charge in FIA World Touring Car Championship qualifying to secure the DHL pole position for the Main Race at WTCC Race of Portugal tomorrow (Sunday).
Polestar Cyan Racing’s Nicky Catsburg has taken his second career victory in the WTCC, and his first for Volvo at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. With Tiago Monteiro not scoring after a disastrous race day, Catsburg has taken the lead of the drivers’ championship as well.
Polestar Cyan Volvo driver Thed Björk took his second win of the season in the opening race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, launching himself back into second in the drivers’ standings, while two punctures on the final lap took out both Honda’s Tiago Monteiro and Volvo’s Néstor Girolami.
Honda’s Norbert Michelisz has taken pole position at the Nürburgring Nordschleife ahead of Volvo’s Nicky Catsburg and Citroën driver Rob Huff, with practice pace-setter Catsburg unable to challenge after suffering his second puncture of the weekend on his final run.
