Norbert Michelisz and the Zengő Motorsport team are all smiles after a tough but very rewarding first race-day of the 2015 FIA WTCC season at Termas de Rio Hondo in Argentina.
A technical failure in qualifying saw Norbert and the No. 5 Honda Civic take the start from the back of the field in both races. However, Norbert managed to work his way through the pack in spectacular fashion to claim two hard-fought but well-deserved sixth places to begin this year's WTCC adventure in style.
"Race one was fantastic for us", Norbert says. "I would not have dreamed that we would be able to score such an good amount of points considering us starting from the back of the grid. But it happened! I try to do a clever second race as well." And Norbert lived up to this by again recovering lots of positions in the second race to bring home another sixth place. "We scored important points", he says. "I really would not have believed we could pull off such a performance after yesterday's qualifying. But it just worked out well again."
Bright sunshine and temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius made the 2015 WTCC season opener a difficult challenge for drivers and mechanics alike, the heat and the humidity straining everybody at the track. But even with more than 65 degrees Celsius in the car, Norbert retained his coolness throughout the day to come away with 16 valuable World Championship points and the lead in the Yokohama Driver's Trophy. "Thanks to the team for a job well done", the Honda driver says. "Hopefully we can continue like this."
