Norbert Michelisz and the MOL Group Zengő Motorsport team proved their strength under pressure in today's Qualifying session at Marrakech's Moulay El Hassan street circuit.
After finishing 9th and 12th in the Free Practice sessions Norbert managed to find some more speed right in time, coming home 6th with a lap-time of 1:44,102 minutes and thereby finishing best of the Honda drivers. He also out-qualified WTCC stars such as Sébastien Loeb (8th) and Yvan Muller (10th) and only narrowly missed out on taking part in the top 5 shoot-out in Q3 with 0,040 seconds missing to make the cut.
"It was much better than expected", says Norbert. "From our pure performance we were expecting something around P10. But especially in Q2 I realized that the car had a very good balance. So I was able to push. I could drive very close to the walls without taking too many risks. This allowed us to finish sixth."
However, Norbert regrets not having had the chance to further improve his lap-time in the final stages of the session: "I'm sorry about the last flying lap", he says. "By the time the yellow flags came out I had improved my personal best by about three tenths. Performance-wise it would have been possible to even go to Q3. But we are happy with the result, of course."
