Norbert Michelisz and the MOL Group Zengő Motorsport team leave Morocco satisfied and with a pair of solid top 10 results in rounds 3 and 4 of the 2015 FIA WTCC season.
However, it was not an easy day at the office for Norbert in the No. 5 Honda Civic WTCC as the two 14-lap races were to be driven in very hot conditions on the infamous Marrakech street circuit where concentration is a must for the drivers. That did not prove to be an issue for Norbert as he brought his Zengő car home in sixth and eighth respectively, scoring valuable points and defending his lead in the Yokohama Drivers' Trophy against strong opposition.
The first race was dominated by the five Citroën drivers, leaving the Honda drivers without a chance to fight for the victory. Norbert finished the race just behind the two factory Honda cars in eighth and second in class behind Mehdi Bennani.
"It was not a busy race", he says. "The only interesting part was the start where a lot of cars were around me. I felt early that the brakes were suffering a lot because of the heat. Therefore, I was trying to do a race without any mistake. That was the maximum for us, unfortunately."
The second race proved to be much more lively – and not only for Norbert. But he kept his cool, survived all battles and brought the No. 5 MOL Group Honda Civic home in sixth, claiming the best result of all Honda drivers and the third place in class.
"This race was busier than the first one", Norbert says. "There was a lot of carnage. I was touched from behind and touched somebody in front of me, too, because of that. I could not avoid it. So it was a big mess. Unfortunately, my car sustained a bit of damage. In the end, however, positions six and eight are the results I had hoped for before the weekend. So I am satisfied with these results."
